About

Nice to have you here!

I’m Omar. I’m an award winning composer, arranger, performer, and educator from New York City. Growing up between New York City and Cairo, Egypt the arts were always a constant to lean on. Whether it was diving into different worlds through listening to and making music, or the community and bonds that came from embarking on joint artistic journeys as a young person in the theater, being creative continues to become an essential part of how I move through the world.

I particularly love telling stories through music, whether it’s by scoring music for film, TV, or podcasts, or by composing/writing for musical theater. I graduated from Swarthmore College with a BA in Music in 2020 after studying composition, conducting, orchestration, piano performance, along with receiving a well rounded liberal arts education. I have had the pleasure of writing music for a variety of media, including film, podcasts, dance pieces, and a web series. I’m also a songwriter/musical theater composer and I have co-written three original musicals, with a fourth on the way. I’m also recording and producing my first album with the hopes of releasing it in the next year! I also play the piano, guitar, accordion, and I’m working on my flute!

When I’m not writing and composing, I’m teaching. I was lucky enough to learn the value of a strong community and arts education while growing up, and I fell in love with the idea of  providing that for others. So I work largely as a teaching artist at two wonderful organizations, Rosie’s Theater Kids and Different Directions. I work as a teaching artist/musician teaching classes from musical theater, singing, and music composition, to stage combat. I also teach and music direct a class where we put on original musicals with teens ages 13-18.

And then finally when I’m not writing, composing, or teaching I perform! Whether it’s writing the score, playing accordion, and leading the band for a show, voice acting in podcasts such as The Romulus V or Roguemaker, or acting in films such as What’s Left of Home and an upcoming short film, I can never get enough of the thrill of creating in a live space with other artists.

I believe that the stories we tell, and how we tell them, can be transformative, and I am passionate about harnessing the power of that transformation.

Outside of professional work/music/teaching I love spending time in my local parks, playing with my cat Artemis, listening to music (no surprise there), making music with friends (even less surprise), bouldering, and am known to have a few close up magic tricks up my sleeve.
